Knot Tying

Essential knots for AV, rigging, and touring production.

  1. Bowline

Creates a fixed loop that will not slip or tighten under load. Used for safety lines, securing equipment, and anywhere you need a reliable non-slipping loop. Remember: the rabbit comes out of the hole, around the tree, and back down the hole.

  2. Clove Hitch

A quick-release hitch for attaching rope to a post or pipe. Not secure under variable load directions — always back it up with a half-hitch. Useful for temporarily securing cable bundles to pipe grid.

  3. Figure-8

A stopper knot used to prevent rope from running through a block or device. Also tied as a follow-through loop for life safety applications in rigging.

  4. Opera Knot

The standard knot for coiling and storing XLR, speakon, and other cables. Over-under coiling prevents memory and kinks. Tie a quick wrap around the bundle to keep it together.
